Had a pretty fun Thursday. Started off not too nicely... spent $60 on my ticket to Malaysia. Leaving Friday morning... like way early morning at 7.30am on 23rd if any of you are wondering. Then because of that, was late for lunch with Jayne, Gabs and Kelvin. Met them at the Parkway Foodcourt (read : not hawker centre) and then we walked around a bit. Went to some pretty odd places. Cotton On, Best, Topshop. Then headed down to Katong's Gaming Giants which wasn't the easiest place in the world to find, but hey, we found it. Jayne was pretty amped about it. Well, I was too, but just trying to be cool. Haha!
Yup, so yesterday I officially played LAN for the first time in 09! Played probably the best co-op multiplayer game there is, Left 4 Dead. The coms weren't perfect and th Steam system wasn't the easiest to figure out, but hey, it was fun with the best people around (= We figured out eventually how to work the game, and with James' advice, on how to use the zombies.
Tale of the day : Fang Xian killing Jayne behind the house
Jayne was wandering by herself away from the other survivors and ended up exploring an area behind a house near the woods. Unknown to her was Fang Xian the smoker waiting for her on the roof. Unknown to Fang Xian was that the smoker was the perfect character to be using on a lone survivor. Unknown to both of them, Fang Xian perfectly caught Jayne and dragged her up the wall with zombies pounding and clawing away at the helpless survivor Jayne a.k.a Roland. Haha!! Then in the real world, screams of "tongue!!!" and "im behind the house!!!" and "Where are you?? can't find you" were to be heard as I watched helplessly as the Boomer (who wanted to go BOOM but since Jayne was the only survivor there, she couldn't damage me, so I just added to her misery. It was quite sad as that was the end for Jayne's survival and it soon became Left 3 (not)Dead.
Moral of the story : Don't wander on your own. EVER! Even the zombies won't know what's gonna be thrown at you!
Okay, then we had lunch at parkway, had bubble tea and the sort and rushed down for YA Comm Cell.
Roland went around asking how our new year has been, cell-wise, spiritual walk and schedule wise. It was quite relaxign as opposed to the "come prepared to work and pray" sms that he sent out. Had a "case study" of David the Tigger, Methilda the Nalgene and Michael the Sony Erricson handphone. The case study was on maturity. My thoughts from that.
Roland pointed out two things, that firstly, maturity is subjective. Secondly, (however) there is also a common accepted standard by society.
My main point was what Roland preached about in the manhood series that Maturity can be measured by responsibility. But I've learnt that responsibility isn't a shallow word at all. How does one know that one is responsible. If we're obeying the Bible, then that's Christian maturity, but how does this measure up in the world?
So I've come to realise that I'm not really sure how to live a non-Christian good life. Cuz for me, good is only defined by doing what God says. While that is a good handicap to have for me personally, it doesn't do me any favours in being all things to all men. No way will I be relevant to my world, if my values (while correct in the eyes of God) cannot be translated into a language the world can understand, much less speak.
Not to make it sound so foreign as if Christianity is like from another galaxy, but really, there are things that contradict the world head on (while others are looked up to still, e.g. honesty, compassion, integrity). So what makes a man mature. The simple answer Christ-likeness does not do justice to the topic, yet I believe that will and always will be the answer towards life. Why? Because the opinion of the one who will only ever matter said this, "I am the Way,the truth, and the LIFE," so quite obviously, to be mature, the only true way is through living a Christ-like life.
And that concludes what Emmanuel is pushing for in 2009, a year of "To Be Like Christ", maturity is definitely one of the aspects that will improve as I strive to be more like Him. Looong way to go, and I don't say this just to be politically correct, but yeah, long way for me still.
Zombies, respawns and reloads are still on the back of my mind, but among happier things, I'm 3 weeks through the Life Development Plan '04 by LifeChurch.tv and yeah, the Relationship with People that I watched today was a truly timely one. I've answered the 4 questions
1) What relationships need to be initiated
2) What relationships need to be nurtured
3) What relationships need to be restored
4) What relationships need to be severed
And unsuprisingly, there's at least one relationship for each question that I need to work on. Like Ps Craig famously says, every relationship ends up somewhere, but we want to end up somewhere ON PURPOSE.
And while I was praying if I should add a name to one of the question, suddenly I felt like I should check Winnie's STARS Planner which I've been camping for roughly half the day. And behold, there was 1 vacancy and within 10 seconds, I called Winnie (with about 4 missed calls) to tell her, SHE GOT IT!!!
Yup praise God for being faithful in biddings. I got my MKT1003 as well, so Xiuyu and Shujing, I hope you don't mind me asking noob questions about Marketing. Exciting year ahead. Time to start doing work!
Yeah!!
Everybody ends up somewhere. I want to end up somewhere on purpose!
