In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
That's quite a controversial thing to be the very FIRST thing God wants to tell us in the Bible. Kenneth here wanted God to speak to Him. TO reveal something new about Genesis chapter 1. And I didn't get anything until i started writing this blog post.
Wow, the very first thing God wanted us to know about Him is that He is the Creator of ALL things. That's what God wants us to realise, that is central to our lives. That everything we see, own, create, dream of, He made it. So "in him we live and have our being", so also in Him, from the very foundations of the earth, He wants us to find Him.
And that message never changed. Matthew 6:33 to seek His kingdom, not His creation, Matthew 5:6, to hunger and thirst for Him, not the food He gave to us.
The very first message of the Bible, God wants us to be clear on one thing - Materialism is not the way.
Also hidden beneath a simple start, is the fact that God knows that, well, man would eventually try to figure out everything apart from Him. So in His very first message to us, He's showing us how He did things. Not how we reason and proof with "scientific" knowledge. Not how logic defines facts. He's God beyond that.If He chose to create light on the first day and the Sun on the fourth, what is there to stop Him?
God also wants us to know that He is above all understanding. That He is not human. He is God. So Big Bangs or no, Evolution or E.T, God from the very beginning shows us that He is already above all of this. He is not insecure of Himself to give a logically sound version of creation that we can comprehend. God is God.
So what I learnt for the first time in Genesis 1 is God wants us to seek Him by showing us He created all things and He wants us to have control over it, but to stay in fellowship with Him.
Also, God wants us to know that He is God, not a scientific theory or philosophy. What He has said, He wants us to know He is above all things. And with that, we can trust Him, no matter what the circumstance in life is. Whether there is no way out, no future, God tells us it doesn't matter, He'll be there! He ALWAYS has been!
the story ends like this;
